Experience and Qualifications

I am a fully qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. This means that I abide by the BACP code of ethics, undergo regular supervision and keep my skills and knowledge updated.

I have worked in the health profession for over 20 years; for 13 years as a GP. I have always had a special interest in mental health and emotional well-being, and in the value of a therapeutic relationship. I have long been an advocate of using ‘talking therapy’ for emotional-wellbeing and after finding counselling extremely helpful in my own life journey I began training in counselling.

I completed an Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling at the Iron Mill College in Exeter and I now work as a counsellor for the Counsellors Southwest Community Interest Company, delivering NHS based counselling in Health Centres, to patients who are referred by their doctor, as well as in private practice. I am also a qualified clinical supervisor.

I have experience of working with many aspects of mental  health & psychological well-being including; anxiety, stress, personal development, relationships, work related issues, grief or loss, depression, health related difficulties, carers issues and  self-esteem.

I am an integrative, humanist therapist. This means that I can work in a variety of ways to suit each individual client, focusing on what’s important to you and at a pace that suits you. My therapeutic approach includes aspects of Transactional Analysis and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, but is primarily based on  a Person-Centred perspective. I believe in  our ability to develop and grow as unique individuals. My aim is to support you in working towards a deeper understanding of yourself and your world; moving closer towards reaching your full potential.
